Review on CMT 796 001 00 Router Extension Collets by Curtis Thilges

I had a request from my son, a contractor, to make eight 6x6 porch braces out of white oak with a three foot arch on one side. I found that I had to lengthen the chuck to complete the job but had problems with the manufacturer's delivery due to my preferred supplier when the wait stretched to months. So I had to go the old way of removing the needed wood from the central area that my router (chisel and hammer followed by sanding) couldn't reach to finish in a reasonable amount of time. The client liked the work on the first side of the house and decided to do the same on the opposite side. When I received an order for nine more braces I decided to check out Revain and they had the same extension available and I received them within four days. I will be completing the last of nine today and highly recommend this product. I only use 1/2" shanks so I can't comment on the 1/4" size. I had to buy a large straight cutter (with bearing) since the collet on the extension is 1 1/8" in diameter. The largest I found was 1 1/4", which worked well. Of course, when scanning a horizontal surface this isn't a problem, this application was done on a vertical surface.
