Better collet extension at a higher price.

I use a collet extension to level the plate. Since I use a 2" cutter, I needed the best extension available. I have several other extensions and CMT has the highest rating. You pay a little more, but a 2" bit at 22,500 rpm isn't something you get want to lose.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Fits

Well made and solid item

I'll admit I've been a bit wary (so far) of getting this guy past 20k rpm with a razor sharp attachment. But it worked as advertised. There is no vibration as others have written. Although I would use it again at any time, I will try to avoid it if possible! There's just something about that extended length that makes me nervous.

  • Confident

You will not be disappointed with the finish or material of this product

Very well made! You will not be disappointed with the workmanship and material of this product. Four stars instead of five just because I want the collet to engage the threaded cap so it comes loose from the cone when unscrewed, and I want it to come with a 1/4" collet as well, but it doesn't from - for the product quality.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Damaged

Smooth ride, but yes, this collet is HEAVY!

I haven't measured the run out yet but today I tested it with a 2 inch hard face drill and it went very smoothly. It was still difficult to remove the racquet after use; It took a small screwdriver to pry apart the split sections (in the middle, NOT in the cones) and pliers to remove the cone from the bit shank. star deduction.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Safety

Large wrench Required

Very strong looking extension cord. Happy ending to everything. However, a set of 1-1/16" and 3/4" wrenches is required to tighten. What disappointed me the most is that its collet "locks" the router. When you loosen the cutter there is no secondary loosening, so the bit/collet/nut sticks together and needs to be tapped with a hammer. Not too much of a problem with a plastic hammer, but I'm not too keen on the idea if it's a storage bit with a small threaded element on top.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Weight

Almost impossible to get the bit out at times

The extension caused the cutting head I was using to vibrate so much that my hands went numb the next morning after using the router that contained it (it was fully seated, and I've never had a problem with batting). In addition, it "jammed" after several days of use (there wasn't much to choose from). I couldn't get the bit out and my $60 router bit required me to hold it in place with a vise, hammer and assorted wrenches. Upset and disappointed with this purchase but at least I was able to…

Nut and collet don't match well

My main problem is the threads sticking between the collet nut and the main shaft. They don't fit perfectly. A 27 mm wrench, which is quite large, is suitable for the nut. The key that came with my Triton router was too small. The adjustable wrench I have is also too small. I had to use pliers. Then, after milling, the milling cutter I used "got stuck in the collet. Even after completely removing the nut that should have completely disengaged the collet from the router, the router was still…

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Highly recommended. in collets

I had a request from my son, a contractor, to make eight 6x6 porch braces out of white oak with a three foot arch on one side. I found that I had to lengthen the chuck to complete the job but had problems with the manufacturer's delivery due to my preferred supplier when the wait stretched to months. So I had to go the old way of removing the needed wood from the central area that my router (chisel and hammer followed by sanding) couldn't reach to finish in a reasonable amount of time. The…
