Review on Shun 300 1000 Combination Whetstone by Pamela Whitworth

NO MORE BEVELING KNIVES!

This whetstone was amazing. Over the past few years I've owned nothing but Shun knives and have continued to add to my collection. Other than sharpening, I didn't have anything to help me take care of my blades. I have a classic 6 1/2" Nakiri and I don't know how it happened, but this knife looked like it had been hit with something. It was still very sharp and I only sharpened the steel to save keeping it sharp and straight but there were huge shavings in it.I started avoiding it because I didn't want it to get any worse than what it got.Plus I had other knives to use .I always thought I'd just send the knife in to have it professionally sharpened and repaired but I'm really bad at stuff. So fast forward 2-3 years and this knife is still in the same condition it was 8 years ago. I think I must do something, this has been delayed too long.I kept looking at this whetstone and wondered if it would pull out my knick knacks and chips. When I finally decided to buy it I was so glad that I did it n had. I recommend getting a wrist brace or some type of support if you suffer from carpal tunnel or have weak wrists like mine, it was a lot of repetitive work. Even with 300 grit, it still took me a while to sand it down to get rid of my trinkets and chips that I had. But maybe that's because I've never done this before and this knife is long overdue for some work. When I finally finished there were no more pits or chips and the blade was still razor sharp. I want to invest in a 1000/6000 grit stone to better polish the blade. There are some fine lines that are visible, maybe if I used 1000 grit more they would go away, but my wrist was killing me after using it for the last hour. I was so happy to see that my tattered blade looked almost new and the little scratches didn't bother me. I'll save it for another Saturday to sort it out :) No more chips or nicks, the blade is super straight and sharp as F*^%K! Totally satisfied with this product and the results obtained after the first use.
