Review on Derale 16738 Single Stage Electric Fan Controller, Black - 180°F Temperature Control by Mark Adams

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The supplied fuse has blown. yes, cooked

At first the goods fit me. The switch takes up little space and is easy to install in different places to adjust the activation temperature. I ended up installing it on the engine in the hot coolant outlet housing because 180C is pretty high for the radiator temp, let alone the engine temp. Remember that for efficient operation, the temperature of the radiator must be well below the set engine temperature. 3 months after installation, the fan did not turn on. It turned out that the built-in 30 amp fuse had deformed to the point that it was no longer making proper contact with the outlet. The deformation occurred due to the large number of air bubbles that formed in the plastic case of the fuse. The fuse didn't blow, the plastic was swollen and warped. Sounds like poor quality control on this batch of fuses. My dual fans are rated at 24 amps combined. Although the socket was slightly bent, a new fuse solved the problem.
