I am very happy with this new scanner that has replaced my Epson ES-200. This Alaris is much faster, more accurate, and integrates even better with Evernote, which is probably the most important aspect of the scanner to me. Pros: - The integration with Evernote is amazing. It also integrates with a number of other online services, but Evernote is my primary use. It downloads directly to Evernote, so you don't even need to install Evernote on your computer. - It comes with every possible power adapter you will ever need. - Very fast scanning and excellent quality. - Firmware upgrades available. online and very easy to install. Cons: - It takes some time to turn on the scanner. It doesn't take long, but my previous scanner was ready to scan as soon as I opened the lid. This scanner will start up in about 5-15 seconds. It's not long, but noticeable. If you leave it on, it will go into sleep mode, from which it will wake up almost immediately. The only thing is that the power button blinks slowly (like a pulse) when idle, which is quite distracting. - I had a problem with the installation. Like many tech-savvy Windows users, I use a standard user account (rather than an administrator account) most of the time on Windows. When I need to install something, I often just enter my admin password to install it instead of logging back in as admin. Well, you cannot install the drivers properly if you install them from a standard account. It took me 15 minutes to figure it out. You must log out and log back in with your administrator account to properly install the software. Otherwise your scanner will never connect to your computer. - The black pages skip feature is missing, or at least I can't figure it out. This is a common feature of other scanners. - Expensive. - You must register your scanner before you can download scanner applications. Once you register it, you will be emailed a link (which will expire in 120 hours) to download the app. They offer two programs, the first is Smart Touch (see screenshot) which I downloaded and is probably good enough for most people.
