I have a 1.6 gallon aquarium for a new betta. I was concerned that the smaller jar would be too small for the fish and the medium jar would be too big for the aquarium. Average size fits in a tank which is great! But he occupied most of the tank. Henry liked it too. I've decided to trade the pot for the much smaller med zoo beta blog. This actually works better for the tank size. Henry has a lot more swimming space and still has a hiding place. I would say a medium sized jar is good for larger aquariums, otherwise a smaller jar is good for a smaller tank. There weren't any sharp edges, but they seemed a little rough to me, so I filed the edges before placing them in the tank.
