I bought this 15 foot cable to connect a two section SATA drive to my desktop computer because the one that came with it was too short. From the moment I turned on the device, I had constant disconnects and I/O errors on the hard drive in the dock. I then connected it to my laptop and got the same results. Eventually I replaced that cable with the original and everything worked fine. After that I did a little research and found that the maximum recommended length for a USB 3.0 cable is 9 to 10 feet. While a quality cable can add a few feet to that length, this cable doesn't, as it clearly can't handle 3.0 speeds. It worked when plugged into a 2.0 port, so it's reasonably functional, but not at higher rated speeds. In conclusion, Cable Matters should not sell this 15-foot cable without further testing. It might work with less demanding devices, but I wouldn't trust a 3.0 cable longer than 10 feet unless it's active.
