We live in a forest and have lots of various types of rodents around. We’re always working on that, looking for cracks and holes and sealing them up. Rats and mice can’t chew through steel wool, and that’s why it’s effective. We’ve often used steel wool pads for this, but this 2-pack of flat steel wool bands are an improvement. This way, we don’t end up with gaps. We simply unroll what we need for a given crack, and then tear or cut it to size. Each roll is just over 3 inches wide and 7.5-feet in length, so you get 15 feet for your $13.Once you have the length you want, you can use a screwdriver or scraper to push it into place. We’ve also used silicone glue to fix it there, and of course, you could use duct tape as well. The wool can aggravate your skin, so you may want to wear work gloves. One drawback: steel wool will rust if it gets wet, and then deteriorate and collapse, allowing the rodents back in again, so you need to bear this in mind. We’ve been able to keep rain and wet out in some areas by sealing the outside crack with caulk.
