Review on Optimized for XFINITY Internet & Voice: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 (24x8) DOCSIS 3.0 WiFi Cable Modem Router Combo (C7100V) by Prentice Martin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works very well with Xfinity high speed data, not so well with voice

Bought when it was released a few months ago to use with my Xifinity. I waited several months to share my experience with him. It was brand new at the time of installation and even the Xfinity engineers couldn't find it on their list of supported modems. I have to say, if you place this modem next to the Xfinity modem, it's almost identical! The only difference is the logo. Setup was fairly easy, the printed instructions that came with the modem are accurate. Just follow this and you can't go wrong. After almost 4 months of intensive use, I am satisfied with the wired and WIFI parts of this device. Overhead WiFi signal strength has increased significantly for both the 2.4 Gbps and 5 Gbps bands (compared to the AT&T Uverse modem). I use an ethernet cable to connect my entertainment system so streaming movies is very smooth. The speed test shows download speeds of 150+ Mbit/s and upload speeds of 25+ Mbit/s over both WiFi bands (without obstacles or with small obstacles such as dry walls). and floors). However, the voice part is a different story (voiced by Xfinity). Sometimes it's good and sometimes not so good. I've been on the phone with Xfinity tech support a few times and it's all coming to nothing with this Nighthawk modem (note that I've been using the Xfinity modem for almost 4 weeks while awaiting delivery of this modem, the voice quality was pretty good back then). What I mean is that after resetting the modem the voice quality is good and clear for a few hours. .the next day the problem repeats itself again. The problem is the incoming audio, it always sounded intermittent, but the other side can hear me just fine. I don't know if any firmware updates need to be done. This problem is somewhat alleviated by calling WIFI from my smartphone (due to a significant improvement in WIFI signal strength). So I give this place 3 stars. Because: This modem is quite "expensive" - over 250 dollars. although it handles both data and voice, has 4 data ports, etc. and is ostensibly aimed at cable TV users who don't want to pay a monthly modem rental fee ($10/month for Xfinity). In my opinion, for this price, I shouldn't have any problems with the voice part.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • cable is shorter than others
