CHEAP VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE FIXES EVAP SYSTEM LEAK PROBLEMS

I have a 2010 Fusion and have had problems with the CEL for the past few years. Sometimes I could get the code, sometimes not, but the problem always appeared in winter and then disappeared as the weather got warmer. For this reason, I did not immediately replace the purge valve, although circumstantial evidence seemed to indicate so. In the last month or so (June) the CEL came on again and persisted (after resetting). The codes always indicated leaks in the evaporator system (0455). After looking at many websites I was amazed to see people spend hundreds of dollars to replace canisters, fuel inlets and who knows what else. This valve was rarely, if ever, cited as the cause. My car had the hoses ok as they should be as the car is only a few years old but I checked anyway. I thought I smelled fuel in the engine bay at times (which I noticed even when the car was new) and it seemed like this valve was the only source. In general, after 5-10 minutes of replacement, the problem disappeared. The replacement part is actually a revised model, the original part is 9U5A-9G866-CF, the replacement part is 9U5Z-9C915-H. I believe you can still buy the original part number. BUT DON'T DO IT! Both parts physically look the same, but I noticed that the replacement part may have had a slightly larger blue o-ring on the neck that goes into the engine. The blue o-ring on the old part has tapered towards the neck. I'm assuming air leaked out. But for less than $50 and what most home workshop mechanics can handle, this piece is the ticket.
