Mirgro 40A Contactor

The Products Unlimited Contactor in my old 1995 Nordyne/Miller air conditioner (model PIRA-048K) blew when the contacts were left closed. This made the compressor work even when the room thermostat should have turned off the unit. This caused ice to form on the compressor and ice to clog the evaporator. It's time to replace the 25 year old contactor. Installing the new Migro contactor was relatively easy, with the exception of two minor issues. As shown in the attached photos, the old contactor had 220VAC lugs (L1 and L2) but had ring lugs on the compressor leads. Fans and blowers (T1 and T2). Also, the holes in the tips of the old contactor were bigger than the new one. Not wanting to cut the ring lugs and stripping the wires to fit the lugs, I carefully bent the rings to fit. in eyelets for T1 and T2. On L1 and L2, the small holes for the ferrules made it difficult to insert large pairs of wires, but I finally managed to squeeze them in where they could be inserted. If I had to do it all over again I would probably use a dremel tool to enlarge the holes for example. Wall mounted air conditioner. The new contactor has been working flawlessly for a month now. I particularly like that the contacts have a removable cover to prevent bugs from getting in between. This is extremely important in my part of Florida where there is a growing infestation of Caribbean mad ants that seem to be attracted to electrical equipment.
