Review on 🏠 White Google Nest Protect S3000BWES - Battery-Operated Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector by Matt Ellis

Warning, known issues with Thermal Runaway.

Beware, there are known issues with these Nest smoke alarms going into thermal runaway mode. The bad news for a smoke alarm is that it catches fire. My Nest Protect used the original Energizer lithium batteries that came with the unit. My Nest Protect has started sounding a low battery smoke alarm. I removed the device and removed the batteries. One of the batteries was nuclear hot. Like it's so hot I can't resist. I quickly took it outside fearing it would explode like cell phones did a year ago. The battery stayed hot for several hours. I have contacted Energizer and they have stated that they have no known problems with their batteries. I then contacted Nest and they stated that they have no known issues. However, I've searched the web and found that over 100 people are complaining about the same issue on the Nest support forum, with Nest Technical Support urging each person to contact them personally. Then the nest blocks the thread and there is no solution. I tried to open a case for this issue and got a leg up. I'm sure we can all agree that having the fire alarm go off is a pretty dangerous problem. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. I have seven of these.
