Review on πŸš— Enhance Automotive Diagnostics with OBD Detector Breakout Box for CAN Data Line Signal Analysis by Kipp Amundson

Does what it takes to diagnose, test and measure

I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews but I also noticed that some were expecting something other than a simple junction box. The first thing I did was make sure all the pins and ports matched and connected. The only thing that seemed a little strange is that when I checked the two sites, I found that there was little continuity between them. When measuring the chassis ground between the pin and connector, there was continuity and no resistance. When checking another signal ground without switching to another contact, there was resistance instead of an open. The same applied to checking the signal ground and the chassis ground connection. I think it won't matter much. Some have complained that the LEDs on the CAN lines are not working. I'm not sure why they should as the voltage change is so rapid I can't imagine they will have time to ignite. Possibly bad design but I didn't expect them to glow. Battery and ground lit up and voltage was displayed. The display is a bit dim and the middle number is definitely dimmer than the rest. Again, no big deal. I bought this junction box to use with a scope. I wanted to see if the network is broken. I was wrong thinking that I could read network data through the OBD2 port. I didn't get the waveform I expected. It was a 2003 Saturn VUE. I decided to see what happens if I try that in my 2017 escape. There I saw network traffic. I checked the VUE schematic and found nothing on CAN pins 6 and 14. I cannot check the CAN signals from this port. I had to go straight to the BCM to check the CAN signals. Not the fault of the junction box. So far it's worth the money and I'll use some of that in the future.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • Something different
