This product eliminates the need to disassemble the entire latch to fix a broken hinge pin - each latch bar has TWO hinge pins and without this 'spring loaded' feature you can't put the bar back into the frame - some blinds may require you to enlarge the hole in the slat slightly to accommodate this pin. So be careful when drilling so you don't split the slat.
