I, like most of you who have bought or are considering a new stud finder, have bought north of 5, south of 10 different makes and types. Many of them were blown to bits by high-speed "accidental" collisions with a wall and/or floor. I was often ashamed of my reaction to another useless Herdseer. But the frustration of buying the latest and greatest device with fancy new features and then finding it doesn't work properly is often more than I can take. The fact is, search engines just don't work for most students. Needless to say, I was skeptical when my friend told me about the ProSensor 710. Am I going to spend another $50 on something that's likely to fail like so many others have failed before? As it turns out, a few days after this conversation, I tried using two of my spike detectors and I definitely didn't find either of them. Instead of collapsing and smashing them both like the Hulk, I shelved that project and ordered ProSense. Having used it and the magnet finder to attach 4 large bookshelves to my living room wall I have no hesitation in saying this is the best product of its kind on the market today. Well, I haven't used every herdfinding tool available, but I've used enough (or rather not used) to form an informed opinion I think. It detects studs very effectively, but also other solid structures behind drywall such as electrical wires and junction boxes. People who complain that this is inaccurate may not know much about how electricians run wires, and therefore don't understand why two things often appear at the same time. A magnetic finder can be more useful than a ProSense to be honest, but using it to locate and mark studs is simple and efficient. The ProSense is a bit awkward and difficult to position at first, but you quickly get used to it. I could combine them with a built in strong magnet like in ProSense, that would be cool. Overall I think Thai is a great product and worth the price for those of us who have wiped out more than a few other non-working viewfinders.
