Review on πŸ”§ Superior Performance: Gates TCK304 PowerGrip Premium Timing Belt Component Kit by Mike Marks

Worst car parts I've bought in a long time

Worst car parts I've bought in a long time. Once a respected parts manufacturer, Gates is now a laughing stock. The tensioner failed instantly and didn't hold the belt under tension, causing the engine to jump instantly on startup, bending two valves and costing my shop nearly $1,000 in parts and labor. I will never again install another Gates product or allow it in my shop. I recommend the Continental belt with OEM Subaru tensioners and pulleys. Not to mention that their "guarantee" claim process is an absolute joke. They will determine if it's out of service and will pay you $45 an hour for the time it takes to install a new kit and not fix the major engine failure caused by their horrible parts. Their water pumps went out for Subaru about two years ago, they used to be comparable to OEM, now they are some of the cheapest castings I've seen. The deflection pulleys are also inferior to the OEM product in all respects. The belts seem to be fine, but I generally never wear others. There are alternatives, Continental for all Subaru and HKS for turbo cars, or you can just buy an OEM belt. Never goals.
