There are cheaper versions of the USB 3.0 expansion card but they are not as stable as this card. Believe me, this is based on my experience. I bought a cheaper one and have been happy moving a small amount of files and these cards are universal to support both USB 2.0 and 3.0. But when you bulk copy files between or between external hard drives, it fails. This card does not support USB 2.0, but switching between USB 2.0 system ports and 3.0 ports succeeds and exits. I mean stable.
