Review on πŸ”§ Optimize Engine Performance with FRAM FV198 Positive Crankcase Ventilation PCV Valve by Tay Tran

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The picture does not match the item received and Fram does not have a correct manifold

Whilst I have yet to confirm this I can say that the picture of Revain does not match the part received. I was hoping it would have a port elbow. It's not like this; it is a stacked (dual) port type. Intended use is a 1996 T-Bird 4.6L V8. My original Motorcraft one-way valve barely fits under the standard inlet pipe. Since this fram cost little more than a handful of peanuts, I didn't mind cutting off the knee. I modified it by cutting the upper (EVAP) port tube flush with the remaining bend and caulking the supplied plug into the resulting hole with caulk - the plug fits as is but not tight enough to hold well/ to seal. I noticed the incorrect part number on the card in the Revain image, but since another block is shown with a white elbow in addition to the card block, I was hoping one of them might be a different/older FV198 and have an elbow port. The Fram website shows the FV198 as having a folded elbow, so I pretty much assumed I'd get it. . If you, OTOH, need a new elbow and don't have room for a folded port type, you will either need to purchase an elbow with a port for use with this PCV valve, or plan to modify the included FV198 elbow to suit your application. This item basically gets 3 stars by default simply because everything else from Fram that I've used over the years has worked flawlessly, both in size and performance. I will add a star if the valve body fits on the rocker cover and it works once installed. There will be no 5th star as Fram's own website lists that number for my engine, but the header supplied does not match the stock intake manifold. When a company lists a part as suitable for a particular engine, everything contained in the listed part must match the standard configuration of that engine. Given that inconvenience factor, I was probably generous in giving them the potential for 4 stars.

Pros
  • FRAM PCV valves can help your vehicle meet emissions standards
Cons
  • High price
