I have been working from home since this pandemic reared its ugly head and used a USB drive to transfer files between several different computers at home transferred (Windows/Linux). In order to avoid wasting my time and increase the availability of my files, I decided to buy it. I've had it for about a month now and it works great on my home network. My machines can easily access files with little downtime, and download speeds aren't too bad (could be better, but not bad). Fast forward to last week when I had to use this device's remote access feature while away from home working on my SO that wasn't available for a while (we were both safe and tested negative). There couldn't be a worse "solution" for my remote access needs. My working files weren't all that big, averaging around 1-3GB in size and zipped. It took over 4 HOURS to download a 1.5GB ZIP file and over 7 HOURS to download a 3GB ZIP file. The download speed was limited to 100 kbps and averaged between 1 kbps and 50 kbps. and let's not start with the fact that my downloads were often interrupted and stopped in the middle. This is crazy and unacceptable for any remote storage solution. Even if a remote storage solution were free, it wouldn't be worth it. So I contacted tech support who responded within 24 hours as stated on their website. but they admittedly didn't offer a solution, just confirmed that the remote speeds are utter nonsense for this device. No more than 200kbps. Therefore, the download speed will be slow when many users use it. There are no good solutions at the moment, your request will be forwarded to the appropriate department. "I didn't even hit 200 kbps. s, which is a complete joke, and they admitted that they have nothing to show for the resolution of this QUESTION issue and gave no timeline of when this issue is expected to be resolved (implying that the issue will stay here indefinitely). This download speed limit is not even mentioned in their product description, in their support forums, in the manual, NOWHERE. Take this as a warning if you're considering this as a remote solution. Avoid buying Terramaster products if you want normal/reasonable download speeds outside of your home network.
