Amazon mail and outside of the box say this gate fits 28.75"-38.25" openings - great I have two Measured areas where I wanted to use these gates and they were between those widths so I ordered them. It is only once you have everything open that the instructions state that there are certain 1" increments in this area that the gate will not fit (due to the size of the extensions). For example, if you have a 31.5" wide opening, you will have a lot of trouble installing the gate because using two extensions will make the gate too wide, but one extension will not suffice (31.5" is not a real one number, just an example). It just so happens that both of my holes ended up in those inch areas where the gates don't really work. Luckily my dad helped with the install and he's very handy so he figured out how to fit screws, cut extensions etc to get the gate working but the description needs updating to identify this issue - I'm good in this. To follow directions for things like this, but if my dad hadn't found creative ways to install them I would have had to box everything up and send it back to the seller. Before buying, I recommend contacting the seller and asking exactly what width this gate fits - or better yet, the seller makes it clear that there are openings of a certain width in the advertiser's range that the gate does not fit .
