Great for a DIY countertop project

I used this for a countertop in a utility room/office. I removed the 1980's laminate top to reveal chipboard/MDF or whatever was underneath. I didn't sand or prep the countertops, I just wiped them down. I applied two thin coats of Ardex top coat and allowed about 10 hours to dry between coats. I used a sanding block after each layer dried. I then cured and sealed (two coats) with acrylic Quikcrete. All in all it took me about 24 hours including drying time and 2 hours of actual work. Much cheaper than replacing the countertop and I'm happy with the look. Will definitely be using this again - maybe on our bathroom counters. But here are my tips: Mix concrete in small batches. 3 or 4 batches per layer would be ideal for my 25 square foot area. When I tried this at 2 the mix started to dry out and became more difficult to work with resulting in a rougher/larger job. Toxic, carcinogenic concrete powder is floating in the air everywhere. Mix outside, in a mask. The smell does not linger when applied - I opened the window and turned on the fan. Use a second coat sponge to smooth out the lines from your drywall trowel - reduces sanding once dry. I wanted to get my job done quickly and didn't pay attention to shortcomings. I could make it much smoother if I tried. I'll probably do this for the bathroom. "sticky" in places. I used tape to seal it where the countertop meets the wall. When I had two coats of concrete and two coats of sealant, the tape was under the coats and I couldn't remove it. I have 3/4 or more concrete left.
