Review on πŸ“ž Ooma HD3 Handset - Cordless Phone with Picture Caller-ID, HD Voice Quality, and Compatibility with Ooma Telo VoIP Free Internet Home Phone Service by Tom Oberhue

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to install and great sound up close

The Ooma HD3 comes with two AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, a charger and a wall adapter. First of all, you have to throw away the supplied unnecessary batteries and insert two Panasonic Eneloop AAA batteries. This step will give you longer time between charges and reduce the chance of sticky dirt building up in your phone. We charged the phone for 30 minutes, then the LCD screen asked to be coupled with the telo basis. Please note that HD3 only works with second generation telo devices or higher. If you have an older telo model, either switch to a newer model or buy an HD2. The screen told me that I should press the page button on the telo and hold down. (It is hidden on the back of our block). Then HD3 asked for a connection. Yes! It then took a few minutes for the latest firmware to be downloaded automatically. That's all. Now we can make and receive calls, view our voicemail and see caller ID and an additional photo on the LCD screen. External headphones are not included. The sound quality over the headphones of the handset was very good; The hands -free system sounded like a tiny loudspeaker in the background. During the idle time, the LCD screen shows the local time. Setup was quick so we didn't need any help from Ooma, but I've noticed the customer support has improved a lot over the years. The helpline usually only takes 2 minutes and the people I spoke to are helpful, easy to understand and efficient. This is our first experience with a 2 GHz deck-6.0 phone, and the range was not as impressive as we had hoped. You can reach 100 meters / 300 feet if you put it on your veranda and walk along the street. In our actual situation, we went about 35 feet before we got out. Suggest to install the telo base in a central location to increase the range. This is less a complaint against the OMA as a reference to the restrictions on the DECT specification. Third providers produce DECT 6.0 repeater and can work with OMA and HD3 systems, but we haven't tried it yet. Perhaps this option will be expanded in another customer review. It is worth noting that you can press the page button at the base to play audio from the HD3 speaker. It is loud enough to be heard by the sofa cushions. There is no function with which you can copy a phone book entry into your favorites. While you can press buttons to search for a specific contact, there should be an easier way to move a contact to a quick favorites list. Just like now, you have to select from the call protocol. So the Ooma HD3 looks beautiful, works excellently in the near area and is easy to set up. We are happy with the purchase.
