All metal. Low air pressure is required for operation. I can make it work by blowing into a plastic tube. The ear breaks from more air pressure. I hooked up a 5 gallon air compressor to it and got my ears pierced too. I bought mine used, apart from a few dents it looks like a good product. Sounds good too
