Modes other than 10G do not work properly

I have extensively tested this adapter as well as other 88X3310-based 10G SFP adapters. They all have the same problem: if you want to use 5G, 2.5G or even 1G modes with this transceiver, the transmission speed of the transceiver drops drastically (usually around 200Mbps in my iperf test cases). However, the 10G-10G transmission worked perfectly. I tested the NBaseT functionality using a Mac Pro and a Realtek-based 2.5G USB adapter. I also reproduced the odd baud rate issue even at 1G speeds with different 1G adapters on the other end. So if you plan to only use this for 10G this will work, but it's not a trigger if you were hoping SFP+ would be an NBaseT solution. Currently, the best option is to get a switch with decent NBaseT support.

  • Network transceivers
Cons
  • New competitors have arrived
