SmartThings users will think twice

This item was "recommended" last week when you bought another item. I saw the suggestion, did a quick google search to see if it's compatible with SmartThings and it turns out it is. Still had some homework to do, a few surprises today when I set it up. Since we're using this at the side entrance to our home, we thought it would be a good idea to automate that area as well. Today, when I unpacked it, I found that it is not recommended for outdoor use. Rolled the dice and kept going, it wouldn't be a big loss if she failed. Place the bulb in the included holder and navigate to my SmartThings app. Found the product, clicked 'add' and was told enter the LIFX app userid/password. Was a bit annoyed that I had to download another app to get the product working. Going forward, setting up the LIFX application was really easy. The problems started when I returned to SmartThings. started with password issues and then added it to the location I needed. was a nightmare. When I was done with that, everything added to my external automation and I thought it was over. Once the evening automatic worked, everything worked except for this product. Went in and turned it on manually and it turned on but not what I needed. Have a few other CREE crazy brands at home and they work just fine. Bottom line: if you have a hub, think twice before you buy one. If you don't have a hub and want to use the LIFX app, this might be for you. There are automation options in their app, but I'm not sure how they work and have no interest in trying as the rest of our house runs flawlessly on SmartThings. Stick with what works and set the GE z wave switches to the rest of the inputs that work seamlessly and are easy to add to SmartThings.

Pros
  • Works with Alexa (Alexa device sold separately), Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant for voice control; Beam angle: 250 degrees
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
