Money saved buying a new subwoofer

I have had a Sony surround sound system for a few years now. It wasn't a high-end system, but it served its purpose. However, over the years the display has become progressively dimmer and it has sometimes been difficult to even turn it on. One day it just wouldn't turn on, so I decided it was time to replace it. Unfortunately, the replacement cost a lot more than I expected. Only the receiver/amplifier cost more than I paid for the whole system the first time. Also, almost all receivers require active subwoofers, which meant I also had to replace the passive subwoofer I had from my old Sony system. Another expense, plus my wife hates cables and she freaked out when I said we needed to add a power cord to the new subwoofer. That's where this little thing comes in. Instead of buying a new subwoofer, I just put it in the back. Receiver to amplify the line level subwoofer output to the full output power required by a passive subwoofer. I was able to continue using the existing wiring without plugging the power cord into a nearby outlet. And it was a lot cheaper than a new subwoofer. I know audiophiles will just roll their eyes and say "passive subwoofers suck" but I don't really care and I don't have to listen to my wife complain about the cable. stands across the floor. The source quality is good enough and I saved $75-$100 by reusing what I had. The amp is easy to use. Just plug in. As far as I remember I just cranked the output to full power and fiddled with the notch and switch until the sound was decent. I think it sounds better than the old receiver, probably because the new one has a little more power. So I'm happy. Saved me a few bucks and didn't send a few more parts to the landfill.
