I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 (configuration 13-5378), which is a 13-inch two-in-one device. runs on Windows 10. It does not include an optical drive. So I also bought a Dell DW316 Slim DVD R/W 429-AAUX external optical drive. When I connected an optical drive to the Inspiron's USB 3.0 port, the PC automatically recognized the drive and made it usable. I immediately checked what I need to do with the optical drive, namely: play a manufactured audio CD, play a recorded audio CD, rip a manufactured audio CD to MP3, play a manufactured DVD, burn an audio CDR, Installing software from CD-ROM, copying files to CDR and reading files from CDR Please note that I have NOT checked things I don't need to do like burn DVD, copy files to DVD-R and files from DVD- read R. The device I received is quiet and seems fast enough, although I didn't turn it up brighter. My only complaint is that $32 is way too much money. Similar optical drives from Samsung etc cost $25 or less.
