Loud scratching noise

I was really hoping that this Dell DVD player would be as excellent as my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop, especially since the first external DVD player I bought (Ultra Slim USB 3.0) is defective and must be returned. Unfortunately, the Dell DW316 External USB Slim DVD had the same problem - a creaking noise every 1.2 seconds on both CD and DVD playback and the CD copies I burned. I wonder if they are made by the same Chinese company? I have returned this item and will be looking into anotherโ€ฆ

Dell makes no warranty when purchasing Revain

DO NOT BUY ON AMAZON. DELL MAKES NO WARRANTIES. I learned the hard way as many others have warned. This external drive is of poor quality and didn't even last a year. Dell will not grant the two-year limited warranty! This product does not have a DELL service number and when I called customer service that was all they were interested in and they kept sending me back and forth between departments. Revain directs you to Dell, who in turn directs you to Revain. Nobody wants to take responsibility.

Garbage Computer Components

I'll start by saying I have a 2 year old Asus Intel Core I-5 laptop that works great and runs Windows 10. It works and every CD I put in this thing after that I've had a nice new 360 degree scratch right down the middle. I don't care how it sounds or what it looks like, but if you care, this thing is a piece of shit, it's very loud and you can almost hear the CD creaking inside. Also, it seems like it should be $2 at the flea market. Just a warning to all future buyers. I figured if I spent aโ€ฆ

Broke after very short use for no apparent reason

Bought a year and a half ago but I use it very rarely - probably only 10 times. It sits securely in one place, in a soft case, and I'm a gentle, cautious user. Suddenly, the compartment won't close, so it can't be used. I'd say it's a piece of junk and I'm quite surprised it's a bestseller.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are problems

Reads music CDs but won't read data DVDs - total disappointment

Plays music CDs but won't read DVDs with COREL DRAW data to install. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! It is simply deleted. and sharpens, sharpens, but does not read the disc. (The disc reads well on my internally powered MacBook Pro.) I've beaten a dozen other odd-named brands in favor of DELL.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Negative result available

NOT compatible with Windows 10

I spent hours getting this to work on my HP Pavilion laptop. This will not work. It said "plug and play", it didn't occur to me that it had to be compatible with a specific operating system. How painful. I had to buy another one but now they don't accept returns. I'm stuck with a $30 piece of plastic I can't use. What a waste of money. Make sure you are compatible with it before purchasing!

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Extremely unreliable Best of Externals

I bought this product new with a Dell machine and it stopped working after 18 months. The replacement device stopped working after less than 8 months. He hardly ever leaves his seat, so it's not like he's been transported too much. The madness of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? I was hoping to get a warranty on a broken replacement, so I bought a third one. He broke the record in 2.5 months. Revain does not allow returns after 30 days and the Dellโ€ฆ

plug and play Works well with what I need to do (e.g. non-DVD-R tasks)

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 (configuration 13-5378), which is a 13-inch two-in-one device. runs on Windows 10. It does not include an optical drive. So I also bought a Dell DW316 Slim DVD R/W 429-AAUX external optical drive. When I connected an optical drive to the Inspiron's USB 3.0 port, the PC automatically recognized the drive and made it usable. I immediately checked what I need to do with the optical drive, namely: play a manufactured audio CD, play a recorded audio CD, ripโ€ฆ

DELL MAKES NO WARRANTIES

Attention! Dell specially designed its phone system and trained its reps to block warranty claims if bought here. Must have a "Service Tag" or Dell will not accept the claim. This number will not appear on items purchased directly from Revain. The serial number doesn't work, nor does the typical proof of purchase. Many conflicting excuses are made and hours are spent without success as detailed below. After only six months and only a dozen uses, the DVD tray opened and wouldn't stay closed, soโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Quality of materials: well, kind of broken Lifespan: <6 months Easy installation: Would be easier to install if it was already installed as an optical drive in my Dell laptop! I ended up buying NOTHING Dell! I bought this to be without my Dell Inspiron as they no longer make laptops with an optical drive. Every time I connect this dumb device to my Dell laptop, the cursor moves erratically. Also, less than a year after purchasing this $33 piece of junk, I pulled it out to use it and the slot

Pros
  • Fair price
Cons
  • Not bad
