Review on 📶 Cisco-Linksys WAP11: Enhanced Wireless-B Network Access Point for Seamless Connectivity by Rob Clark

After purchasing their 4 port DSL router which I really like I decided to give Linksys another try with the WAP11. I wish I hadn't done that now. The product only shipped with 40 (64) bit WEP encryption, which surprised me since almost everything has been switched to 128-bit encryption. No problem, Linksys had a firmware update that offered 128, so I downloaded and installed it. Then my problems started. The firmware installation utility reported that it did not complete properly and subsequent attempts failed completely. When I tried to access WAP11 using the SNMP tool, I failed. I then tried the USB interface tool which worked and the device seemed to update properly despite the utility report. (I've since noticed that many other people have had the same issue updating firmware. Did Linksys even check this?) After waiting in the Linksys tech support queue for ages, I was greeted by a tech support rep who who I suspected knew less about networking than I did, and seemed to know even less than I did about Linksys products. He reluctantly sent me down several dead ends which I told him was not a solution just to make sure I was right. Ouch. Why did I call technical support? This should work the SNMP utility which is the only way to restrict MAC addresses. Solution? Disable the WAP password. Brilliant ha! Anyway, the device has been working ever since, but every time I transfer large amounts of data, WAP is also blocked fairly constantly. Then it has to be turned off and on again. I think I will return this device and try another brand.
