Great product - firmware update is difficult with 128-bit encryption

I purchased the WAP11 and WUSB11 wireless adapter and found the initial setup to be very easy and reliable. I can get a 'great' connection (11Mbps) downstairs (about 20ft from WAP11) and find an internet and network connection upstairs with speeds similar to my wired system. Very good facilities. One thing that all potential buyers should be aware of is that this product cannot go through the required 128-bit encryption data stream that several e-commerce sites require. Online banking andโ€ฆ

Limiting Factors in Wireless Access Points

OK, in response to all the other negative reviews: two-tier. I have a WAP11 (and I'm buying a second one for my workstation) and it comes out of the box to set up. I have a house separate from my garage/office and it is not possible/prohibited to run a cable between them for internet access. I set up my WAP11 on my main network and was able to get a good signal using my laptop and my WPC11 (Linksys) PCMCIA card. However, the map orientation is not the best for long distances. Works very well - love it.

I bought a WAP11 (v 2.2) plus a Linksys PC wireless network card and a PCI network card: all for home use. WAP setup is fairly easy with a great web interface. I installed 128-bit WEP encryption and a MAC address filter to provide at least some basic security. I found the signal strength and range to be better than the SMC WAP I tested and definitely preferred the Linksys web interface to the configuration utility that came with the SMC. The only thing I complain about the Linksys device is the

A few things to remember

Buy this product first. Once you've got it set up and up and running, it's a wonderful thing and completely hassle-free. Just turn on your laptop from almost anywhere in the house and you're online. Also works great with pausing and resuming the laptop. You'll never get off the couch again! But a few memories. First, make sure that the SSID of the card and the access point match; mine weren't. (It doesn't matter if they're "linksys" or "wireless" or whatever, they just agree.) Second, don'tโ€ฆ

Great AP, great features, great price

Let me start by saying this AP is great. All the range problems people have are related to using a Linksys wireless card. I am using this access point for a desktop system that is in an awkward location to get an ethernet cable. So I decided to make this desktop wireless. I also use it with a Dell Inspiron laptop with a second WiFi card as this hotspot supports up to 32 users. I use two wireless cards: D-Link 650 and Orinoco Gold Card. Both great cards. D-Link is used on a desktop system and Iโ€ฆ

Frustrating is good for computers and accessories

After purchasing their 4 port DSL router which I really like I decided to give Linksys another try with the WAP11. I wish I hadn't done that now. The product only shipped with 40 (64) bit WEP encryption, which surprised me since almost everything has been switched to 128-bit encryption. No problem, Linksys had a firmware update that offered 128, so I downloaded and installed it. Then my problems started. The firmware installation utility reported that it did not complete properly and subsequent
