Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Your Impact Driver's Versatility with DEWALT Drill Chuck, Quick Connect (DW0521) by Andrew Jenkins

Works but major problem

In short: three major problems to name: 1. Due to the torque threshold of the impact wrench, you cannot tighten the drill beyond this threshold. Unless you find a way to do it manually, which I don't. Maybe my fingers are too big to grip both parts of the cartridge? I believe you can use a hex wrench to secure the bit, but I'm a big fan of quick disconnects and quick bit changes, and I don't like carrying like 10 different wrenches for 10 different tools.2. My Dewalt impact wrench brakes quickly when you release the trigger and stops the drill from spinning almost immediately. I'm not sure how unique this feature is from other makes/models, but I suspect most impact motors use it. When auto-lock is engaged, reverse angle braking speed loosens the grip of the chuck on the bit. Every 1-5 turns of the drill, your drill will fall out of the chuck, most likely into a tiny hole in the device you are building and never be seen again.3. The shank (the part that holds the drill bit) threads out of the chuck (the part that holds the drill bit) and will never work properly until you glue it back with superglue. However, this issue was very easy for me to fix with super glue and didn't cause as much trouble as issues 1 + 2. The only way I've found to work around issue #2 (mostly caused by issue #1) is other than using a hex key (if possible), manually releasing the shutter button gradually to avoid triggering the self-timer. This seems like a simple thing, but it is not. The brake engages very easily, so you have to release the trigger very slowly to avoid this. And finally, the manufacturer's advice: please change the design of this drill chuck to allow better turning of the bits by hand. Or change the design so you can tighten the bits without rotating the cartridge whenever possible.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
