Review on Z Threaded Insert Internal Threads by Victor Correa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great with the right tools

I bought a ready to assemble table that was missing a couple of threaded inserts. After consultation with the manufacturer's warranty department. Decided to go the DIY route and fix it myself. I've installed these types of threaded inserts before by hand with a screwdriver. It took a bit of muscle power to deploy them, and all deployments turned out to be cross-eyed. For this job, I wanted everything to be perfect. The addition to the paste tool looked interesting. I've seen it work well for manual installation (by hand or with a hand drill) with smaller inserts and softer woods. But I needed to install a 5/16 insert in hardwood without fail, so I used a bolt, two nuts, and the drill press method. This method was ideal. The drill held the bit straight and all I had to do was screw it in, the thread did the rest. I think using an extra tool along with the alignment drill would work too. Other thoughts. The threaded insert for the 5/16 screw required a 1/2 pilot hole due to the extremely thick walls. I would have preferred a thinner non-slotted insert.
