This ReadyNAS has replaced my dying old ReadyNAS. My plan was to just swap the hard drives from the old NAS to the new NAS. It did not work. I then contacted Netgear to see if they could help me retrieve data from my old drives and they wanted to charge me a lot of money. I've used multiple tools, different Linux distributions, etc. to try and recover my data, but nothing could read the Netgear ReadyNAS RAID-X storage architecture properly. So the main reason I chose this brand was the huge bust size. I still can't retrieve data from my old drives. Now more about this device: It is attractive on the outside, easy to set up and has reliable features such as two NIC ports and USB 3.0. However, the software management interface is dated and "clunky" compared to other brands like Synology or Qnap. The device works fine and I use it as a Plex server and manual backup destination. However, it lacks many of the features available from other brands like Synology. There is no backup software for ReadyNAS (like Synology), so I had to look for my own software. My old ReadyNAS had some backup features built in, but they stopped working when Microsoft started blocking SMB v1 on Windows 10. The general build quality is better than Synology or Qnap, but the lack of a "modern" management interface and lack of available apps makes me want to buy another brand.
