Review on Kwikset 99380 001 Electronic Deadbolt Featuring by Dominic Mayo

I have been using Kwikset Powerbolt locks for a long time and my book gives them a 5 rating. When I read about it, I was very happy to have it for our traded-in rental in Florida (we live in Tennessee). It took about a year after it was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show to hit the market. I received it about 4 months ago. When I first tried to install it, it didn't find my Wi-Fi. We had several other electronic devices that had no problem detecting our wi-fi signal, but the lock only worked as a deadbolt and not with wi-fi. After several attempts over 2 weeks I finally called and spoke to Kwikset support. The first line of service immediately routed me to the advanced technical team. They guided me very efficiently and beautifully through the process of removing all traces of the lock on my application and on the lock itself and reinstalling everything. Surprisingly it worked. Now 4 months later and with a tenant in the house the lock just won't recognize any codes and after a few battery changes it keeps saying the batteries are low. I can't make a 12 hour trip to Florida every time it fails, so unfortunately I'm going to buy an old Powerbolt, install it and throw away this poorly working lock. $275 wasted. I love Kwikset products but they were launched before they were ready and it will be a few more iterations before I look at them again. Save some money and frustration and stick with the old trusted product until Kwikset really gets that market ready.
