This stone works great, I had to use my "leveling stone" to sand down the marks on the top before it was useful. Here's how I make a "Leveling Stone" for less than $10 and it works great. Get a piece of glass that is 1 foot by 1 inch or larger from the photo frame section at the hardware store ($3). $5) Now soak the sandpaper in water for 10-20 minutes before use, then simply place the wet sandpaper on the glass. Capillary action keeps the sandpaper from moving and you can level the stone very quickly with each use. This stone is very soft compared to my Japanese kitchen knives, so it wears out pretty quickly and forms small pockets. That's why you need to straighten it before each use, but it's also very easy to straighten. PS: This is the exact stone used by Blademaster Murray Carter in his YouTube video entitled "Sharpening the Razor".
