I did a lot of research on a range of wireless access points and routers, but ultimately decided the D-Link DWL-900AP+ would be the right choice to me. One of the deciding factors is the 256-bit encryption, the highest available. From the moment I got the box home to the moment I walked through the house surfing the internet on my laptop, it took a full 15 minutes. And I didn't have a single mistake along the way. Of course, I've been using wired networking in my home for a number of years, and most of the concepts weren't new to me. However, I think the setup guide is good enough to get even a beginner up and running wireless in no time. The trick is to read all the instructions in full before doing anything, and then read them again when you start the installation process. The only area where instructions were a bit lacking was in the advanced setup area like MAC address filtering and encryption keys. I think a beginner might have a little trouble setting it up. I recommend the excellent articles and tutorials on 80211-planet.com to help you understand the terminology and concepts before you start changing the settings. I used the D-Link DWL-650+ wireless network adapter on my laptop and after entering the encryption key it worked immediately. I've never had a problem with any D-Link network devices. The quality of their products never fails to impress me, especially considering the relatively low price. I've also used Netgear, 3Com, and Intel and have had minor to major issues with all three.
