Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ The Ultimate Power Management Solution: Progressive Dynamics PD9105V TCMS Charge Wizard by Maurice Matlock

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great inexpensive update

Like many others, our 2004 motorhome was equipped with a 'dumb' program (fixed voltage) built into its standard converter that provides 12 volts DC for the bus when connected to shore power, as well as for charging too home. battery pack. When I recently needed to replace my home batteries I chose the Trojan T-105 and wanted to provide a better charge profile so they run better and last longer. Our previous camping experience hasn't validated the need for an inverter (which usually comes with an advanced multi-stage charging program), so I was curious to find an alternative to simply buying a new 'smart' charger. Progressive Dynamics offers this line. "Wizard" plugins as an aftermarket application to increase the loading capacity of their popular converters (why they don't just make it part of the OEM package for such a relatively small price I have no idea. RV builders I guess just prefer to save a few extra bucks from their building costs). When you plug it into the converter port, it goes from a single-stage charger to a three-stage charger with "float" mode, as well as "boost" and "desulfation" modes (the latter turning on for 15 minutes every 21 hours). . The loading profile doesn't quite match the Trojan's recommendations, but it's much closer to the stock converter. The connection is plug and play, but the connector is quite large, as in my case, since I wanted to install the Wizard in the cart, I had to cut the connector and then reconnect it to avoid drilling too big Holes in my closet (and the cord is only about 14 inches long). But with the device inside I can control a steering diode that flashes at different rates so you know what mode the charger is using. , and if I feel I need to manually switch to a different charge rate, I can do so using the button on the front of the wizard. Again, not ideal, but a fairly convenient (albeit compromise) solution for a low cost. .As a side note I have camped my RV over the winter in Florida where it has been plugged in but left unattended for several periods of 3 and 4 weeks at a time and when I returned the batteries were fully charged and had not lost any measurable amount of water, mine I don't think it's that bad.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • The list will be long.
