If you can't stand the ticking of a mechanical timer and are trying to use the Pomodoro Technique, this is the timer you need. They have 25/5 minute timers that are ready to use with a simple swipe and shake, then you can set a third time as desired. The timer is set by laying the device down with the timer side up and then pressing the start/stop button. While I originally wanted to auto-start on positioning, I've since found that if you have cat dwellers in your house who like to knock things over, auto-start timers will trigger randomly. Build quality is decent for the price and it has survived multiple falls from the cats mentioned above. My only complaint is that the unit's viewing angles are poor, especially when you have to "look down" at a tabletop and see a heavily shaded LCD. I assume that the costs for the selection of components and the battery life on the part of the manufacturer played a role here, but this significantly reduces the usability of the device overall. While I didn't give it a full score, this is the best timer I've found so far for using a timer-based work schedule with the benefit of silence during the countdown.
