Once installed, this remote switch worked great for solving my simple problem: The light switch for my under cabinet kitchen lights is weirdly in another room and I wanted it in a much more convenient location without paying an electrician, carpenter, and wallboard craftsman to move it. Given that my problem is likely yours, I don't understand why the instructions fail to properly cover this common case. I would give this a FIVE Star rating if the instructions were improved.Because it is far more important in the dark Pacific NW to turn a light on than it is to turn it off, a parallel installation is exactly what's needed. This enables either the wall switch or the remote switch to turn the light on; however, both the remote switch and the wall switch will need to be turned off to switch the lights off. Typical operation is to leave the wall switch in the off position so that the remote switch does the happy on/off.Wiring takes about 5 minutes and is super simple, provided that you have an AC voltage detector ( Fluke 1AC-A1-II VoltAlert Non-Contact Voltage Tester Fluke https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EJ332O/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_SuPqCbMEKXBMJ ).(1) Turn the light off with the switch and then turn off of the power breaker to the switch.(2) Unscrew the switch plate and switch. Pull the switch out while leaving the wires attached.(3) Turn the power breaker back on.(4) Use the AC voltage detector to determine which wire that's going to the switch is HOT. The detector will flash red and beep eagerly when it's next to the hot wire but it won't do anything when it's near a cold wire. (The cold wire is the one that goes to your lights.)(5) Turn the power breaker back off. (IMPORTANT)(6) Connect the Remote Receiver's Red wire (IN) to the connector that the HOT wire is already connected to. (Most modern switches will have a screw-on side connector in addition to the push-in wire connector so you'll only need to unscrew the side connector, slide the wire in, and then tighten the screw.(7) Connect the Remote Receiver's Black wire (OUT) to the connector that the Cold is wire already connected to.(8) Deep in the back of your switch box, there'll be a mass of white wires all wired together with a Twist-On connector. Unscrew the Twist-On Wire connector from this bundle of white wires. Ensure that the Remote Receiver's Blue and White wires stripped ends are the same length as your Switch boxes' white wires are. If the Receiver's stripped ends are too short, you'll need to strip them off a bit more. Wrap the stripped bare ends of the Blue and White wires from the Remote Receiver in with the Switch boxes white wires and then use the Twist-On Wire connector to keep them all firmly together. Gently tug on the wires after twisting on the wire connector to ensure that the Receiver wires stay firmly in place.(9) Pull the Remote Receiver out just a bit so that you can safely touch the syncing switch without accidentally touching a HOT wire. Then turn the power breaker back on.(10) Press the Remote Receiver sync switch until the light on it turns solid red. (about two seconds. Although the light on mine turned solid red, you might have received a slightly different version that just blinks fast. It means the same thing.) Then press the Remote Switch. If all is good, the Remote Switch will turn your lights on and off.(11) Turn the power breaker back off. Maneuver the Remote Receiver and Light Switch back into the switch box and screw it all back together.(12) Turn the power breaker back on. Your done :)
