Review on Wsdcam Wireless Light Switch And Receiver Kit, No In-Wall Wiring Required, Remote Control Light Switch Fixture For LED Light, Ceiling Lights And Lamps, Waterproof Remote Light Switch Kit by Dante Obong

Revainrating 3 out of 5

3.5 Stars: works, but instructions are SO bad that failure is likely

I bought this single switch and also a double-switch version.I gave this switch a one-star review at first (since I could not get it to work at all). Now I have upgraded my review to a 3-star (3.5 Stars really) since I was able to get the two switches to work -- no thanks to the included instructions. Make no mistake about it-- the instructions are simply awful and incomplete. But, once you get the correct instructions, the switches work perfectly. Because the instructions are so bad, many people (if not most) will not be able to get the switches to work. So, I downgraded my rating significantly for that reason. I cannot imagine why the instructions are so confusing and incomplete. Simple laziness is all I can think of. If there were were clear instructions, I would give this product a 5 star review.I tried the double-switch version first, and could not get it to work at all. I was using the simplest set-up possible: a bare bulb "pigtailed" to wires in ceiling (hot and neutral). This is exactly like the little diagram in the instructions. The double-switch did not work at all, and I contacted Best Buy technical support. We went thru various checks and tests, to no avail.I also tried the 2nd receiver, and it still did not work. Best Buy tech support and I followed the included instructions, and neither of us could figure it out. So, we concluded that it must be defective. Best Buy gave me a return label, and I re-ordered the double switch. Next, I tried the single switch version (which I am reviewing here) on my test set-up. I thought it would work, for sure. The double switch must've been defective. But, I got the same result-- it did not work either. The Best Buy tech told me to turn on/off the wired in-wall switch 3x to reset receiver -- so I tried that. It didn't work -- but, this time I noticed that the receiver dongle (hanging from the ceiling) had a little light inside of it that flashed when I turned on/off the wall switch. I had not seen this light before, due to the angle that the previous receiver dongle was hanging in relation to my viewpoint. The instructions do not mention this, but: The receiver dongle has an INTERNAL LED light that is not visible from the outside of the dongle. It can only be seen if it "flashes" through the white plastic. There is also a teeny-tiny button on the receiver dongle, which is white like the receiver, and is also nearly flat, so it does not look like a button. It is very easy to overlook this button, and the instructions do not make it clear that it is there, that it is teeny-tiny, that it is very difficult to find.SO, looking at this receiver, with its internal LED light, I then saw what looked like a little button.I pressed it, and the internal LED started flashing. So, then I realized that this was what I was supposed to press for starting the pairing process. Previously, I had been pressing the button on the transmitter -- which has a very visible LED light on its face. If you press and hold the button, it, too, starts flashing. I thought that this was the pairing that was supposed to take place. BUT, NO, this does not do the pairing.( I don't know what it is doing when it starts flashing.)it seemedBack to my set-up again. This time, I paired the switch using the little button on the receiver dongle, and it worked! However, if I were to follow the instructions/ diagram that comes with the switch, I realized that I had to install the receiver AT or IN the light or fan or whatever I wanted to turn on/off. So, to control a ceiling light, it seemed like I had to remove the light fixture, install the dongle, re-install the light. It was my impression when I bought these switches that I could install the receiver dongle IN PLACE OF the existing light switch, and then control the light from a new location using the new transmitter switch. No need to remove the ceiling light or fan, etc.I was resigned to this extra work, when I read a review of the double switch that explained how to wire the dongle into the existing light switch WITHOUT HAVING TO REMOVE THE LIGHT FIXTURE. I tied his method, and it worked! His instructions are very clear. Why Wsdcam cannot provide simple instructions is beyond me. I had asked the question on Best Buy, as to how to wire this thing into the existing switch box, and no one gave an answer. This gets to my point that the instructions are so bad, that most people simply will not be able to get it to work. You have to be very diligent and dogged, read other reviews, etc. in order to be successful with this product.[To replace wired switch, red and brown dongle wires go to the two wires currently connected to your switch. Blue wires go to the neutral white wires that are likely wire-nutted together in the back of your switch box. Pair the remote switch with the dongle by pressing the teeny-tiny button on the dongle till internal LED starts blinking fast. Then press the remote switch that you want to pair it with.}In summary, the remote switch will work to either replace an existing switch OR to add a switch where none currently exists. But, you will likely not succeed with this product unless you read other reviews on "How to". 3.5 STARS, due to terrible instructions.I
