When I first started using this product, I noticed that it shed tiny shards, which worried me as they might end up in my food. So I emailed the manufacturer and they told me to sand the cutting boards and use mineral oil. While I expected to eventually have to oil my boards, I didn't expect to have to finish them myself. Brand new boards should not require this. Even after sanding and oiling, the board still feels pretty rough and I'm concerned that chipping might still occur. only used once!). All I can say is that you get what you pay for (although I'm not sure these boards are worth even that).
