I bought these binoculars to have something portable to move around on eclipse day. The binoculars work as advertised and provide good magnification of the sun - just enough to see the sunspots clearly. I also purchased a Celestron EclipSmart 50 Solar Telescope and found that while this device is less portable and slower to set up, it is much easier to use. Pros: + Strong and heavy construction. + Compact, extremely portable. + Provides magnification as advertised. .+ Tip of good length. Cons: + Very difficult to use while standing and the sun is high in the sky. You can try lying down and it works great. + Difficult to focus, difficult to aim. Usually the only thing bright enough to be seen with binoculars is the sun or its reflection on something else. Unlike regular binoculars, everything but your target is pitch black, so finding the sun can be difficult. I have found that by using the binoculars more often I can find the sun faster.
