I use this in a small/medium sized coop. We have 11 chickens. We live in New Hampshire which can get very cold on some winter nights. This heater looks beautiful and feels like ceramic. I hang it from a lighting cord in the middle of the chicken coop. Our chicken coop is not insulated, but the doors and windows are closed at night, with no drafts. I wish I could ask my chickens if that makes a difference in the coop. The thermometer on the wall inside indicates that the temperature is 10 degrees warmer with it than without. The chickens themselves keep the coop warmer than the outside air. This heater adds some warmth. I just don't know if it's enough to help them feel warmer. Maybe the increase is so small that they don't notice it. Not sure if this heater helped much for several days when nighttime temperatures dropped below freezing. I also don't know the exact cost of running this heater. I turn it on at night when the chickens are sleeping. I suspect the cost of running the heater is as small as the benefit to the chicks. I think it makes me feel a little bit more like I've added a little comfort to their co-op life. Next winter I might add an actual heat lamp for those few really cold nights.
