I have to say I am very impressed with this amp. The build quality is great, looks great and weighs almost 50 pounds. it feels like quality. I let it warm up for half an hour and then checked the offset. It was very close to spec and only needed a little tweaking to get it right. This task is made easier with dial buttons and gauges. Plugged in and ready to go, at full volume, not a shred of sound came out of my Klipsch Cornwall lll. With lamps and transformers it is impressive! All I can say about the sound is WOW! If everything gets even better after breaking in, I can be happy. I use it as a direct amp and my Vincent SV-237 MK is the preamp. This is a very impressive audio device. 9/6/20 Having now spent some time with this amp I would like to expand on my first impression of its sound. Remember this amp was purchased after over a year with my Vincent SV-237 MK which doesn't miss the mark in the audio reproduction department! Now used as a preamp for X7, a very successful marriage. The sound is on par with what I found with the Vincent and in some cases even surpasses it. This applies above all to the stage and image area. I found that I overwhelmingly preferred the ultralinear mode to the triode. It's far more vibrant and bright, and the difference is very noticeable when you flip the switch. Overall, the bass on the X7 is much smoother and fuller, the mids are about the same and the highs are less fatiguing than the Vincent. All my music is ALAC formatted and is served by my Sony HAPZ1ES. I found that by inserting an iFi Micro iTube2 between him and Vincent, most of the harder aspects of the digital format were toned down. I'm happy to report that I was able to make an ifi backup as the X7 doesn't support digital like Vincent does. It's a lot less harsh and boring. Putting it all together gives you an overall enjoyable listening experience that doesn't seem to favor any particular genre. A warning to potential buyers; That's one hot amp! Those big KT88 tubes get hot so this amp should be placed on an open top shelf where it gets enough airflow. I have ordered an AC Infinity AIRCOM T9 fan to install under the X7 to keep the case components cooler. I need to spruce up its interior as it's only rated for 30lbs and the X7 weighs 50lbs! If I have one comment, I wish they had thought of adding either a sensitivity switch or level control to the volume meters. They barely move when using the preamp inputs at normal listening levels which is a shame as they are such a prominent feature on the front panel and being old fashioned I love seeing the meter set in action! 09/12/20 I received my AIRCOM T9 and immediately found that it is much heavier than one would expect given its size. It's very solidly built. I decided to try Muzishare to see how it handles the extra Β£20 over its Β£30 rating. There was no noticeable flex in the case and the fan pitch didn't change, so I decided against trying to beef it up and just left it as is. I'm not giving you my blessing to do this, just telling you how it worked for me. The T9 is designed to sit on top of other audio gear and dissipate heat with a built in sensor to automatically turn on and off. This feature also works well with a T9 placed under the Muzishare as it gives off enough heat to trigger the sensor. I set it to 75Β° and it works great. 10/28/20 Still loving this great amp. However, I've only used it as an amp so far, with my Vincent SV237 MK acting as a preamp, so I decided to try it all myself. It struck me immediately that it had lost most of its "brilliance". This is what I would call a very neutral amp, which is what many modern music lovers need. It still sounded good but lacked the depth and body I love about my music. I like deep bass, rich mids and crisp but not harsh highs. I'm old school which means I must have tone controls. The "One Sound Fits All, Take It or Leave It" philosophy of modern devices without tone controls just doesn't suit me. This is an excellent tube audio device that can appeal to almost any listener, regardless of sound preferences. When you're idling, this does you good. For those who prefer a rich sound, combine it with a decent preamp and it springs to life.
