Okay, okay, how can you get excited about a potato masher, right? I mean it's just a matter of breaking other things up. Basically something like a potato. Not so much, right? NOT RIGHT! I received it a week later and switched back in the midst of my family's end-of-summer fries obsession. Of course, we're not doing much mashed potatoes right now, so that's going to be an issue when we try to consider this thing. Luckily, I made a batch of "super creamy" potato salad where the secret ingredient is mashed potatoes. So, I can tell you a few basic things about this potato masher: 1) It mashes. Yes, news! 2) It is very easy to clean. 3) It does MORE than just a single task! <---- IMPORTANT POINT What do I mean? Like I said, I've been cooking a lot of fries lately and it absolutely doesn't need mashed potatoes. But they must be taken out of the fryer! Lo and behold, we have a potato masher that is one solid piece of metal from stem to breaker. Crushers with holes that do not collect hot frying oil. So yes! This thing can act as a pretty powerful fryer and double its usefulness in no time! Word to the wise: Since it's all metal, I wouldn't leave it in frying oil for long, it's likely to get hot and leak. But for literally scooping up pounds and pounds of fries? A real CHAMPION! My previous potato masher couldn't do this, firstly because it was a traditional two-handed style and the center masher was made of durable (and fusible) plastic. Eventually it succumbed to wear and tear and those tiny rough scars that seem inevitable with plastic instruments and make me feel like they're going to be a bacteria-filled nightmare. This is not the case with this pusher! My only nitpick here is that given the simplicity of the design, it would be nice if it could be a single piece of metal, including the handle. This one seems solid, but it's one of those designs where after 10 years part of the handle can loosen or loosen. That's pure speculation, but here it is. Also, it doesn't have any potential like any self-defense weapon, improvised grappling hook, or anything like that. It may not be a single-purpose tool, but it doesn't quite fit in my backpack of post-apocalyptic scholarly survival tools. a bit like a shovel/spoon on the side. Highly recommend if that's what you're looking for, but maybe not something to crack bank vaults with or impress the ladies with.
