The original speakers have a much stronger enclosure. They also have a metal bushing in the mounting screw hole to allow more torque on the screw. Additionally, there is a clip along the mounting surface for easy mounting and isolation. Since my old speakers would gather dust on a shelf in the garage, I used them to install new speakers. I removed the cones and magnets and cut out the existing cage leaving the original wire connector. After preparing the old speaker, a new speaker was installed on top of the rest and the wires soldered to the standard connector.
