Review on Gabriel 49131 Hijackers Air Shocks by David Will

Poor quality control

I think these are the best air shocks money can buy and they are better than the Monroe but. Airbag quality control is very poor. I ordered three sets before being hit by an airbag, which moved up and down smoothly under my own weight alone and didn't make a loud popping noise when inflating. I also got a shock with a bent air port on the side of the shock. The packaging is not very good and makes the faucet prone to damage in transit. The only reasons I chose Gabriel over Monroes are the airbag screen, swivel mount and 4an fit. I custom made my airline out of 3/8" air compressor hose, so I needed a way to attach it to the shocks. The fitting on the shock side is a 37 degree JIC 7/16-20, which in this case is compatible with the popular 37 degree 4an fitting. The side mount sticks straight out of the side and vibrates rather than the 90 degree angle I think most people want. Besides, who has access to 200psi? Most compressors max out at 100psi or a little more, and my bike pump only gets up to 70psi for my total weight. My pump is high volume, not high pressure. A higher pressure pump with a smaller diameter piston will achieve higher pressure for the same force, but will require more pumping. Despite everything, I'm very happy with what I have now. They accepted my returns without hesitation and I got what I wanted and what I paid for. These shocks are not recommended for a 2001 Tacoma 5 bolt truck, but they are the perfect length. The recommended shocks are too short and limit the downward travel. These shocks provide more downward travel than no shocks due to the downward pressure. I had to replace the top bushing but it came out easily using a set of sockets and a vise to pry it out. I get 3/8" buoyancy and 100 pounds of help for every 20psi I add (I only tested up to 100psi because like most people that's all I have). So at 100psi I get just under 500 pounds of support and just under 2" of lift (empty) with an impact angle of 25 degrees from vertical. Remember that the less vertical impact, the less help and lift you will receive.
