Review on ๐Ÿ”ง XMY 45-Piece Set of Buffing Wheels and Wire Brushes by Lorenzo Wood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent quality, good value for money.

First things first; REGARDLESS OF THE QUALITY OF HIGH SPEED WIRE BRUSH, ALWAYS WEAR GOGGLES WHEN USING THIS TYPE OF HIGH SPEED BRUSH! In fact, you should always wear safety goggles with metal tools at any speed. These wire brushes hold up almost as well as the branded ones, but with a flat wheel I think the many negative reviews reflect people using them at speeds well above what ANY high speed flat wire brush should be servicing. If your RPM is over 10,000 with this type of bit, you need to remember that the external force on the wires has no bending direction to mitigate a possible loose grip when clamping the small center hub. The cone and pen tip versions rotate the wires outward from the initial downward position. So they flex outward at an angle to the clamping hub and create a good grip that prevents the wire from flying out of the hub, especially when force is applied to the brush wire, and helps release it. With a flat wire brush, those wires are already pointing in the direction they want to come loose, and when you add the centrifugal force created by the speed to pull and catch, which is what happens when you're grinding some rusty metal, those wires are going to eventually let go. If you rev the revs well above the 10,000rpm threshold, they'll fly like little darts out of your shirt, pants, and very often your skin, unless you're wearing long sleeves. For this reason, I strongly recommend protecting your eyes AT ALL TIMES, even if you turn the instrument on with any of these bits set. I personally pulled out a wire stuck right in the eye of one of my guys. Luckily the shot came from the side and not directly in the middle. Another feature of these flat wire brushes that sets them apart from regular Dremel flat brushes is that they are 1โ€ณ in diameter instead of 3/4โ€ณ like the Dremel. Branded flat wires. It might not sound like much, but that extra 1/4 inch metal wire creates extra pulling force on the wire to dislodge it from the hub, so the speed must be reduced based on that fact alone. I use flatwire at around 8000rpm and they work well and last almost as long as the branded versions. You can buy real industrial versions that have a real "through-wire" design, where not only is the wire clamped down the middle, but the wire itself runs through a tapered center hub that's laser welded and twists without the can rotate at incredible speeds wire flies off so fast. But you will spend about $60-$80 in bulk for EACH small piece of brush in the flat version. So if you use these attachments at the right speed (and maybe a little higher if you use them on wood) you should get decent durability. She. I had them put through their paces and slapped them the wrong way to test my whole theory and was very pleased that what I assumed about the negative comments was pretty accurate. Take it for what it's worth, it's not a big expensive deal and you might think I'm crazy for posting such a long review. But these are pretty important little tools, and without someone looking into the final details, it's hard to feel like you've found the right product. It's good. You just have to use them properly.
