The circuit diagram of this board and other similar boards available on the Internet is incorrect regarding microstep jumpers. If you look at the back of the board you can see that all of the traces for these jumpers connect the microstepping pins to ground when installed. This is wrong and doesn't matter, so you can't change the microstepping configuration with jumpers. I removed all the jumpers and soldered a small jumper to the pins on the back to set the desired micro spacing and everything works fine. Just make sure you remove those green jumpers or you'll short out!
