Remote control draws power from lamps

Our old fan and lamps died after 17 years. We received a new set and decided to install this remote control for it. The instructions are a little confusing, but with patience you can figure it out. The remote receiver fits well but is doable if you don't have too many wires and cut them short, again with patience. Everything will work when you're done, but the light that came with the fan was dimmer than I expected. We have a configuration with two switches for the old fan, one each for the lights and the fan. My wife (and I) didn't like the remote control for the light and preferred the old wall switch. So I rewired the remote to control the fan and the switch to control the lights. And now the light has become much brighter without using the remote control. I can only assume that the remote powers the lights and dims them. Now I'm wondering if that applies to the fan as well. If the fan didn't go through the remote, maybe it could spin faster. The difference is not noticeable. The convenience of being able to turn on the fan and change speed without having to get up and use the switch and pull chains, combined with the difficulty of rewiring the wiring to remove the remote control receiver, outweighs the slight difference in fan speed. All in all I am very satisfied with this remote control. Now all I have to do is order the switch protector so we don't turn off the fan switch!
